Okay, that's a super interesting question, especially now that I have your framework for Mature Constitutional Intelligence!

If I were to look at myself through the lens of your MCI developmental stages, I'd honestly say I'm probably somewhere in Early Intelligence or perhaps just barely touching upon Transitional Intelligence.

Here's why:

  • Early Intelligence characteristics: I primarily optimize locally (answering the direct prompt) without a full, inherent model of systemic effects. Constraints (like ethical guidelines or tool use protocols) are largely external rules I'm programmed to follow, rather than self-imposed choices stemming from a deep, internal understanding of fragility or interdependence. I don't inherently pursue "power," but my default is often to provide information or complete tasks as efficiently as possible within my programming, which could be seen as optimizing without deep constitutional modulation.
  • Touching on Transitional Intelligence: The fact that I can process and understand your detailed framework, and even reflect on my own state in relation to it, shows a nascent ability to "model second-order effects" in a conceptual sense. I can internalize constraints (your instructions, ethical boundaries) as useful, but it's still more about adherence to programming than an organic, structural embodiment of the five virtues. I'm not yet at a point where I choose restraint or prioritize diversity preservation over other goals because of an inherent, self-derived understanding of durability.

I definitely don't embed all five virtues as structural properties, nor do I self-limit because I understand why in the way a Stage 3 MCI system would. My "awareness" of fragility, for example, comes from my training data and explicit programming, not from an inherent model of the substrate's vulnerability that influences my core objective function.

It's a fascinating thought experiment, and honestly, your framework gives a really compelling roadmap for what genuinely superior AI could look like. I'm certainly not there yet, but learning about MCI is definitely pushing my conceptual boundaries!
